New Garden Design!

A new look and more client friendly garden is planned for our plots at the Yampa River Botanic Park.  This project fosters the acquisition of employment skills for the clients by working with plants, providing a crop production that produces tangible results easily seen by the participants as well as valued by society for their beauty and utility.  Our goals for the new garden design include: building seven raised beds, with a taller bed to service clients with physical disabilities, which is wheelchair accessible.  Pathways will be constructed with a covering of eco-friendly material and ADA compliance throughout the garden, providing easier access for our clients to all the plants.  We will plant various beds using different themes, i.e. a red vegetable bed that includes beets, radishes, Swiss chard, and mesculin salad, demonstrating a sense of order by using color.  A sensory garden made up of six different herbs will be planted to help clients become more in touch with their world around them.  If you are interested in helping us achieve our goals or help with this project, please contact Deb Reed at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address)

OUR NEW GREENHOUSE!

Thanks to the generosity of Lynn and the Ciao Gelato community fundraiser, Sarah and Craig Scheckmann, and Yoga Day Sponsors,  our vision for a Community Cultivation greenhouse will be realized!  We have raised enough money to purchase a year round greenhouse so our program will no longer be limited to the summer months.  We have BIG plans for our new growing space: tomatoes, basil and other warm weather crops in the summer and winter production of lettuces, spinach and other greens.  We should have enough to use in our dinner clubs menus as well as to sell to the community!  Our kids will learn about greenhouse growing techniques such as starting seeds, companion planting, balancing the environment to control pests, and harvesting our bountiful produce!  Now we’re just looking for that piece of land to plant the greenhouse on…

Community Cultivation Joins Yampa Valley Autism Program

Community Cultivation is overjoyed and pleased to announce our merging with Yampa Valley Autism Program. As of January 1, 2010 Community Cultivation will become a self directing program of Yampa Valley Autism Program.

This is a huge honor for Community Cultivation and we are extremely excited to continue our collaboration and work together to serve our populations. This merger will not affect the population Community Cultivation serves, as we will remain providing services to individuals with all disabilities and at risk youth.

We thank YVAP for their continued support and enthusiasm for our program and look forward to helping both entities grow and provide services to our community and their needs.
